Calculate the required yardage of fabric = (project Width * project Length) / (fabric Width * 36) * fabric Length

Where: 1 yard = 36 inches = 3 feet

Formula

Fabric Yardage = (Length in inches or cm × Width in inches or cm) ÷ 1296 (for yards)

For example, if the fabric is 60 inches wide and 120 inches long, the calculation would be:

Fabric Yardage = (60 × 120) ÷ 1296
Fabric Yardage = 7200 ÷ 1296
Fabric Yardage = 5.56 yards (rounded up to the nearest hundredth)

So, the fabric yardage required for this piece of fabric is 5.56 yards.

    This calculator cannot possibly be right considering the input can be either cm or inches. 1 inch is 2.54 cm, they are not the same.

      We added a unit selector (inches/cm) that converts every input to inches before the math runs. So cm and inches never get multiplied together. Also removed the old fabricLength field, since it wasn’t part of the actual yardage formula and was just adding noise to the result. The correct formula is just (width × length) / (fabric width × 36).
